DIY is a space for intensive dialogue among creative economy actors in Surabaya, brought together by first breaking down the socially constructed barriers like (exclusive) communities, backgrounds, style preference, generation, of favourite schools. After those barriers were shattered, ideas fly and interchange. The deepest impression was, there was indeed a desire for long, intensive dialogues among creative economy actors, whose thoughts and ideas have not been accomodated by the menial work routines (even creative work can be boring). For me, DIY is the opportunity to bring Surabaya as a more significant force into the creative economy map, or at least to build the movement for a new tradition in creative communities in Surabaya.
